Great Yarmouth Supported Contact Centre
Precious relationships between separated parents and their children are kept alive thanks to volunteers at Great Yarmouth Family Contact Centre. Supported contact at the Gorleston Centre helps youngsters maintain bonds with estranged parents where the resident parent has anxieties about leaving their children alone with ex-partners.
Terry Pover is the co-ordinator for the Family Contact Centre, and says "by allowing families to have a no pressure, safe environment, we allow them to return to a sense of normality. Without attending the Contact Centre one parent may never see their child again. We play a very important part in family structure. All volunteers at the Centre under go child safeguarding training and help families every other Saturday. We always know in advance which families are attending which helps us plan what toys to provide for visiting children".
