Family support

Our Family Support Service incorporates a range of projects which aim to support parents in whatever difficulties they are facing in raising their children.

To make a referral, download our referral form here.

The Volunteer Befriending Service

The Volunteer Befriending Service offers parents weekly assistance from a trained volunteer.  Volunteers attend a seven week course and are then matched with a family.  They visit the family in their own home on a weekly basis, offering up to three hours of support with any difficulties the parent is facing in bringing up their children.  Common issues parents face are setting boundaries, dealing with difficult behaviour from their children, physical disabilities, depression and isolation.  Our volunteers come from all walks of life with a wide variety of experience between them.  The main ability they
all have is to be non-judgemental and, whatever their personal background, they all have a desire to help parents through the stresses of modern family life.

If you wish to find out more about volunteering for Families' House please click here or contact us on the above telephone number.  If you feel that you need the support of a volunteer or your would like to make a referral please contact us on the above number or click here to download a referral form.

Parent Support Groups

Families' House runs a fortnightly support group for parents who have children with challenging behaviour.  Parents are able to meet others who are experiencing the same behavioural difficulties with their children.  Parents learn to separate their children from the negative behaviour and discover new parenting techniques.  Different topics are discussed at each session dependent on the needs of the parents who attend.

If you are interested in attending this group or would like to make a referral to this group, please download a referral form here or contact Emma Cameron or Sarah Fong on (01603) 621702.

Family Courses

Families' House offers a range of courses to the families we support,
in conjunction with other organisations.  These include a Saturday
Family Learning project where parents have had fun with their
children decorating a four foot tall penguin, Speak Easy training which
helps parents in discussing sexual health matters with their children, and
Webster Stratton parenting courses.

Drop-in Sessions

Every Friday morning (apart from Bank Holidays and school holidays), from 10am to 12 noon, we offer drop-in support sessions to any parent who needs some advice about a particular issue they are facing.  Our trained staff will speak to you on an individual basis and guide you in where to go to for support.  If you are in need of some assistance, just come along for a cup of
tea and have a chat with other parents and our qualified staff.

School Holiday activities

We run several events and activities during the school holidays for parents
to enjoy with their children.  These activities include trips out into
the community and activities provided at our Norwich base.

Parent Support Advisers

Families' House Parent Support Advisers work in local school clusters
supporting parents with any difficulty they face which is impacting on the
child's ability to achieve at school.

Time for Me Project

The aim of the project is to help children (aged 4 - 15 years) who are finding it difficult to cope with the effects of parental conflict as a result of separation.  The Time for Me Project provides a service that offers children ten therapeutic sessions.  This would be individual therapy or attendance at a group for children with similar problems.  To make a referral please complete the referral form and also the additional information form or contact Jacqui Harrison on (01603) 621702.
